Now is the Time to Quit
Wednesday, May 13, 2015

There are so many reasons to never start—or to stop—smoking, from improved overall health to finding better places to spend disposable income. One aspect of smoking that isn’t as often discussed is how it affects your oral health. Add these to your long list of reasons to give up tobacco products.

The chemicals in tobacco cause between 80% and 90% of all oral cancers.

Smoking increases your risk of periodontal disease. Smokers experience longer recovery times after oral surgery and dental procedures. Dental plaque builds up faster for smokers than nonsmokers.

Smokers are plagued with bad breath more frequently than nonsmokers.

Smoking stains tooth enamel, giving the smoker a perpetually yellow smile that is difficult to whiten.

Quitting smoking before the age of 30 reduces chances of early mortality by 97% and quitting before the age of 40 reduces risk of early mortality by 90%.

We want to help you protect your smile for a lifetime and that means avoiding all tobacco products. Give us a call if you have questions about your dental health or would like to set up an appointment for treatment.
