Perhaps your tooth has been knocked out, you are experiencing bleeding or have a pain in your tooth that requires immediate attention. No matter the emergency, give us a call and we will let you know what can be done before heading to the emergency room.

While we will be able to assist in an emergency, there are still some precautions you should take immediately when experiencing an emergency until you get to our office. Here are some common dental emergencies that may surface and some precautions you can take until you get to our office:

• Adult tooth is knocked out; try to put the tooth back in the socket (do not touch the root). If you cannot do this, try placing it between your cheeks and gums or in milk.
• Soreness, swollen areas; be sure to always rinse out your mouth with warm water to clean any area that may be experiencing some issues. You can apply a cold compress to any sore or swollen areas to keep any swelling down.
• You’ve bit your tongue or lip; we are able to help in these circumstances depending on the severeness of the trouble. Be sure to clean the area gently with water.
• Severe pain or an abscess tooth; give us a call as soon as you can. We will be sure to get you in so that we can get you taken care of. This pain can interfere with your life deeply and we want to be sure that you can be seen in a timely manner as well as ease your pain as quickly as we can. Aside from the pain, an infection can take place if not taken care of and can be life-threatening.

Sometimes it may be difficult to figure out what constitutes as a dental emergency. Here are a few questions you can ask yourself so you can get an idea if you should give us a call;

• Are you bleeding and is the bleeding not stopping?
• Have you been hit in the oral area?
• Have any teeth come out or become loose?
• Are you experiencing severe pain?
• Are you experiencing swelling or have any bulges, or knots on your gums?

If you have answered yes to one or more of the above questions, chances are you may have a dental emergency on your hands. Do not hesitate to contact us and let us know what is going on. If you can get treated sooner rather than later, the chances of us being able to help you are greater. If you are ever in doubt, it is better to give us a call rather than wait.
